How Can I Help My Dad Quit Smoking Cigars?
he promised he’d quit by October but he smokes up to 4 or 5 a day and I don’t think he’s going to make it. My mom is convinced he isn’t going to but I’m determined that he will because it’s unhealthy, it makes him smell bad, and his whole life revolves around whether he has enough cigars or not. Any tips on how I can help him quit?

I have a perfect idea. get a picture of yourself and cut it out in the shape of wutever he keeps his cigars in. Then tape your picture to the cigar holder. Every time he goes to smoke one he will see your picture and be reminded that you really care about him and are trying to help. good luck

Coming from a quitting smoker, There isn’t any way you can get him to quit unless he actually, genuinely wants to. You won’t be able to guilt him into it, because he’ll probably notice you’re doing it and although he loves you he is ADDICTED. Smoking is not just a WANT and most if not all adult smokers know the risks so showing him pictures of black lungs and other gross medical stuff won’t make him, and you can’t annoy him into quitting. Depending on his age and how long he’s been smoking will probably lower the chances as well. (trust me, My grandfather found out he had emphysema when he was 72 and kept smoking until he died at 79. He started smoking when he was 12 or 14.) If you find that he really really wants to quit, (cause you can want to quit but still like smoking) ask him what he plans to do with the time he’s not smoking and if he would like to take up some activity to fill that space with. If he decides to do that, be there for him and help him stick to it.
P.s. I couldn’t figure out how to get an underline so sorry for the CAPS.

Offer to be his buddy, one that he can talk to when he is feeling the urge to smoke. People have a hard time quitting because 1) people dont truely believe they will quit and 2) they don’t have anyone to help them stop. During the times he would usually smoke, after dinner, offer to play a board game or shoot some hoops to get it off of his mind.
My dad has smoked since he was 15 (hes 50 now) and I wish he would quit. Im lucky I dont live at home anymore.

tell him you want him to be around longer, because you simply love him….or, be really mean, and cut horse hairs just a wee bit shorter than his cigars, and slide one in there…right next to the wrapper…it is easy to do…..that is really nasty, and if you get caught….blame me !!!
