Is It Safe To Say That The Desire To Start Smoking Nowadays Can Be Traced Back To Low Self Esteem?

I can’t think of any practical reason why anyone would start smoking. Maybe because it calms your nerves, but with all the other OTC meds out there, is smoking really worth it?

Yes, it is often connected to the need to fit into a certain group.
For example, models smoke to lose appetite, but it shortens the career (and life) which also boils down to a desire to be accepted into a group. Many teenage boys start smoking to “look cool” which definitely shows a weak self-esteem because smoking is used as a crutch to prop up the lack of self-confidence.
If someone is smoking, I always wonder what was the mental trigger.

Asides from nicotine, what OTC meds give you similar effects? Also, an addiction to OTC meds is probably more damaging than an addiction to cigarettes.

Yes cigarettes are cheaper. Have you seen the price of any OTC meds?
Can you get 20 pills for $4.29. I think not.
I love to smoke, I smoke when I am happy and I smoke when I am sad.

I agree. People who smoke have low self-steem or have no life at all.
