What Is Up With This Smoking Cessation Money In The Stimulus Plan?
Why are they wanting to spend millions on smoking cessation when they want to expand SCHIP at the same time PAID FOR by cigarette tax? Isn’t that counter-productive? I’m a democrat but this just makes no sense to me at all. I say choose one or the other.

Why not choose both? I don’t understand what you are complaining about. Smoking cessation is aided by higher taxes on cigarettes. That is entirely consistent. If SCHIP is partially funded by cigarette taxes and the smoking cessation programs work, then they can find alternative methods for funding. I am not an anti-smoking advocate but it is indisputable common sense that smoking-related illnesses cause greater expenses in our health care system.

There is nothing about this bailout (stimulus) bill that makes any sense. They say we need to money into the economy quickly, yet only 3% of the money will be spent in the next 12 months. They tout it as a transportation and infrastructure bill that will create jobs, yet only 3% will go towards building projects.
this bills only true objective is to put in place ways that the Obama administration can change the government and the economy so that socialist objectives like universal health care can become reality.
Obama is not about changing the way Washington works, there is more pork in that bill than any before.

More abject brilliance on the part of Congress. I think they’re dumber than the voters who elected them! What’s that I hear? TooT ToooT!! Next stop universal healthcare…All aboaaaard! $3-4 trillion bailout pkg for too-big-to-fail non-financial businesses is next on the dockett.

Must provide money to pharmaceutical companies who make products for smoking cessation. Just follow the money!
Or
they know those quit smoking programs don’t work!

I agree!
I wish everyone would go online and look at HR1 Stimulus Plan) and HR2 (SCHIP renewal) – it is all nothing more than tax and spend!
